What’s in the box Check and identify the contents of your package: • Main unit • User manual Overview of the main unit (See 1) aSET ALARM/CLOCK/SET TIME • Set the alarm timer/time. • Switch to clock screen. bHOUR • Set the hour. cMINUTE • Set the minute. dDisplay panel • Show current status. eREPEAT ALARM/BRIGHTNESS CONTROL • Repeat the alarm. • Adjust the display brightness. fAUTOSCAN • Program radio stations. gSLEEP/ALARM RESET • Set the sleep timer. • Reset the alarm timer. hBUZZER/RADIO ALARM • Set the alarm mode. iMW/FM • Select a waveband. j- PRESET + • Select a preset radio station. kALARM ON/OFF • Turn on/off the alarm timer. lRADIO ON/OFF • Turn on/off the radio. mTUNING +/- • Tune to a radio station. nVOL +/- • Adjust volume. 3 Get started Always follow the instructions in this chapter in sequence. If you contact Philips, you willbe asked for the model and serial number of this apparatus. The model number and serial number are on the bottom of the apparatus. Write the numbers here: Model No. __________________________ SerialNo. ___________________________ Install batteries Note You can only use AC power as power supply. Batter•ies (not supplied) are for backup purpose. 1 Open the batter y compar tment. 2 Inser t 4 x 1.5V R03/UM-4/AAA batteries with correct polarity (+/-) as indicated. 3 Close the batter y compar tment. Connect power Caution Risk of product damage! E • nsure that the power voltage corresponds to the voltage printed on the back or underside of the apparatus. • Risk of electric shock! When you unplug the AC adaptor, always pull the plug from the socket. Never pull the cord. • Before connecting the AC adaptor, ensure you have completed all other connections. Note • The type plate is located on the bottom of the main unit. 1 Plug the AC power cord to the wall socket. S et clock 1 In standby mode, rotate SET ALARM/CLOCK/SET TIME to the SET TIME position. » The hour and minute digits begin to blink. 2 Rotate HOUR to set the hour. 3 Rotate MINUTE to set the minute. 4 Rotate the SET ALARM/CLOCK/SET TIME to the CLOCK position to confi rm. Adjust volume level 1 During play, turn VOL +/- to increase/decrease the volume level. Listen to radio Tune to a radio station Tip • Position the antenna as far as possible from TV, VCR or other radiation source. • For optimal reception, fully ex tend and adjust the position of the antenna. 1 Press RADIO ON/OFF to turn on the radio. 2 Adjust MW/FM to select MW or FM tuner. 3 Press and hold TUNING +/- for more than 2 seconds. » The radio tunes to a station with strong reception automatically. 4 Repeat step 3 to tune to more stations. • To tune to a weak station, press TUNING +/- repeatedly until you find optimal reception. Program radio stations automatically You can program a maximum of 20 preset radio stations. 1 In the tuner mode, press and hold AUTOSCAN for more than 2 seconds to activate automatic program mode. » All available stations are programmed in the order of waveband reception strength. » The first programmed radio station is broadcast automatically. Program radio stations manually You can program a maximum of 20 preset radio stations. 1 Tune to a radio station. 2 Press AUTOSCAN to activate the program mode. » The preset number begins to blink. 3 Press PRESET +/- to select a number. 4 Press AUTOSCAN to confi rm. 5 Repeat the above steps to program other stations. Note • To overwrite a programmed station, store another station in its place. Select a preset radio station 1 Press - PRESET + to select a preset number. Other features Set the alarm timer 1 Ensure that you have set the clock correctly. 2 In standby mode, rotate SET ALARM/CLOCK/SET TIME to the SET ALARM position. » The hour and minute digits begin to blink. 3 Rotate HOUR to set the hour. 4 Rotate MINUTE to set the minute. 5 Rotate the SET ALARM/CLOCK/SET TIME to the CLOCK position to confi rm. Set alarm mode 1 Adjust the BUZZER/RADIO ALARM control to select the source for the alarm. » When the alarm time comes, the selected FM/MW radio or buzzer turns on. Tip • If radio source is selected, you can adjust MW/FM to select between FM and MW radio. • To adjust volume for the tuner source, exit the alarm mode fi rst.
