Compact Plain Paper FAX with 2.4 GHz Cordless and Answering System Model Number KX-FPG371/KX-FPG372 Finding the Controls Handset With the handset facing you, the antenna is a narrow, 2-and-a-half inches long protrusion at the top right. Just below the top, on the front of the handset is a shallow oval concave. This is the earpiece. The smooth surface below the earpiece is the display. Immediately below the display are three buttons in a horizontal row: the left one is the FUNCTION button, the middle one is the MUTE button and the right one is the CALLER IQ button. In the center below these buttons is the NAVIGATOR control, which is a large rectangular control with four active areas. The active areas are the 12 o’clock, 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions. The 12 and 6 o’clock positions are UP and DOWN keys respectively. The 3 and 9 o’clock positions are the RIGHT and LEFT arrow keys. These are also the EDIT and CHANNEL keys respectively. The upper left of the NAVIGATOR control, an oval button with a clipped edge is the TALK button. The smaller oval button below the TALK button is the SPEAKERPHONE button. To the upper right of the NAVIGATOR control, an oval button with a clipped edge is the OFF button. The smaller oval button below the OFF button is the HOLD button. The HOLD button is also the INTERCOM or CLEAR button. Below these buttons is the telephone keypad laid out in the conventional telephone arrangement with a “nib” on the 5 button. On the lower left below the keypad is the FLASH button. The FLASH button is also the CALL WAIT or PLAYBACK button. On the lower right of the keypad is the REDIAL button. The REDIAL button is also the PAUSE button. The indentation between the FLASH and REDIAL button is the microphone. The 2 metal ridges at the bottom of the handset are the charge contacts. The headset jack is on the left side edge of the handset, at almost the same height as the top row of the buttons. It has a rubber cover that is opened from front to back, and is not completely removable. Base unit With the base unit facing you, the antenna should be straight up on the right side, towards the back of the unit. The handset's charging cradle is on the left of the base unit. This is an inch deep depression near the front. For charging, the bottom of the handset gets put into the cradle with the handset buttons facing up. The handset must be placed in the cradle in an upright position. The unit will beep when the handset is properly placed in the cradle for charging. The control panel of the base unit is divided into three equal parts: left, middle and right. Left part: This part contains the telephone keypad laid out in the conventional telephone arrangement with a “nib” on the 5 button. Below the keypad are three oval buttons in a horizontal row: the left one is the FLASH button, the middle one is the REDIAL button, and the right one is the MUTE button. The FLASH button is also the CALL WAIT button. The REDIAL button is also the PAUSE button. Middle part: At the top middle part of the panel is a smooth surface. This is the display. Immediately below the display are four buttons in a horizontal row: from left to right, RECORD, ERASE, PLAY MESSAGES and AUTO ANSWER. The lower right of the ERASE button is a single oval button. This is the CALLER IQ button. In the center below this button is the NAVIGATOR control, which is a large circular control with four active areas. The active areas are the 12 o’clock, 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions. The 12 and 6 o’clock positions are PLUS and MINUS keys respectively. These are also the VOLUME control increase and decrease keys. The 3 and 9 o’clock positions are the RIGHT and LEFT arrow keys. To the left of the NAVIGATOR control is a single rectangular button with a clipped edge. This is the DIGITAL SPEAKER-PHONE button .To the right of the NAVIGATOR control are two rectangular buttons with a clipped edge. The top button is the MENU button. Below this is the HELP button. Right part: At the top are two oval buttons. The top button is the CALLER ID button. Below this is the LOCATOR button. The LOCATOR button is also the INTERCOM button. Below these buttons is a ditched rectangular button with a clipped edge, marked with an indented page icon. This is the COPY button. Below this button, there is another ditched rectangular button with a clipped edge, marked with an indented diamond. This is the FAX START button, which is also the SET button. To the right of these buttons is a ditched circular button, with a minus-shaped protrusion, marked with an indented triangle. This is the STOP button.
