Allow the engine to cool before storing in any enclosure. 4. To reduce fire hazard, keep the engine free of grass, leaves, or excessive grease. 5. Check the grass catcher bag frequently for wear or deterioration. For safety protection, replace only with new bag meeting original equipment specifications. I Hairpin (T) Handle Loop Handle HANDLE IDENTIFICATION The hairpin (T) handle will mount to the deck with shoulder bolts, nuts and lock washers. For models with remote throttle control, there is one longer bolt for throttle control. See figure 1 reference letter (C). The loop handle may mount to the deck in one of two ways. a. Shoulder bolts, nuts and lock washers. b. Handle brackets on deck held by two hairpin cotters. See figure 2 reference letter (S). Loop handles may be assembled in two ways. a. Non-folding with curved head bolts and nuts. b. Folding-type with curved head bolts and hand knobs. 4 List of Contents in Hardware Pack: Figure 1. After assembly, see operating section of this manual for proper fuel and engine oil recommendations. Your new mower is shipped preassembled with the exception of the handle and wheels. 1. Remove lawn mower and all parts from the carton. Make certain that all loose parts and literature have been removed before the carton is discarded. NOTE Throttle control may be optional on your unit. 2. Extend throttle control assembly which is attached to engine at the rear of the mower and place on floor. A CAUTION Do not bend or kink control wires. ■3. Place lower handle in line with hole on deck. Secure to deck with shoulder bolts (I), lock washers (J) and hex nuts (K). See figure 3. NOTE It may be necessary to bend the ends of the lower handle inward slightly to assure a snug fit against the deck mounting area. Your mower has four height settings. Use the same hole for all four wheels when assembling. See figure 4. Place shoulder bolt (F) through wheel. See figure 4. Place crown side of belleville washer towards the wheel (away from deck). Assemble the upper handle halves to lower handle using five hex bolts (B) and lock nuts —(D). Only tighten finger tight. See figure 5. Hex Lock Nut (D) (Throttle Control Optional) 9. Place the tab on throttle control between the upper handle halves at top holes. Secure with hex bolt (C) and hex lock nut (D) provided in -hardware pack. See figure 6. 10. Tighten securely all six hex bolts and hex lock nuts with 7/16" wrench. FIGURE 6. 11. Secure throttle control wire to handle with two cable ties (E) provided in hardware pack. -See figure 7. 12. Check all nuts and bolts for correct tightness. 13. Slip hand grips (A) on the upper end of each handle. They will slip on more easily if you first soak them in warm, soapy water. 7 I Inner Hole Weld P FIGURE 8. ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS (Loop Handle) 1. Extend throttle control which is attached to the engine at the rear of the mower and place on the floor. Be careful not to bend or kink control wire. —2. Fasten lower handle in position over weld pins in handle mount brackets on deck. Secure with hairpin cotters in inner hole on weld pin. See figure 8. NOTE There are two (2) holes in the handle mount brackets. Place the lower handle against the brackets and secure with hairpin cotter in the inner hole. Inner hole is for operation. Outer hole is for storage. NOTE It may be necessary to pull open the ends of the lower handle. This will insure a tight fit when assembled into handle mount brackets. 3. Assemble upper handle to lower handle. —Secure with two carriage bolts (L or N) and hex lock nuts (O) or hand knobs (M) as shown in figure 9. NOTE There are two height positions for the handle.
