This compact package provides the connection integrity of flanged body globe valves while being significantly lighter and easier to install. SCOPE OF MANUAL This instruction manual includes installation, maintenance, and parts information for the 51000 series control valve and type 16 actuator. No person may install operate or maintain a 51000 series control valve without first being fully trained and qualified in valve, actuator and accessory installation, operation and maintenance, and carefully reading and understanding the contents of this manual. If you have any questions about these instructions contact your Fisher® sales office before proceeding. NOTE Neither Emerson®, Emerson Process Management, Fisher®, nor any oftheir affiliated entities assumes responsibility for the selection, useand maintenance of any product. Responsibility for the selection, useand maintenance of any productremains with the purchaser and end- user. .............. Always wear protective gloves, clothing, and eye wear whenperforming any installation operationsto avoid personal injury. Personal injury or property damagecaused by sudden release of pressureor bursting of pressure retaining partsmay result if service conditions exceedthose for which the product wasintended. To avoid injury or damage, provide relief valve for over pressureprotection as required by governmentor accepted industry codes and goodengineering practices. Check with your process or safetyengineer for any additional measuresthat must be taken to protect againstprocess media. If installing into an existing application, also refer to the WARNING at the beginning of the Maintenance sectionin this instruction manual. .............. This valve is intended for a specific range of pressures, temperaturesand other application specifications. Applying different pressures andtemperatures to the valve couldresult in parts damage, malfunctionof the control valve or loss of control of the process. Do not expose thisproduct to service conditions orvariables other than those for which the product was intended. If youare not sure what these conditions are you should contact your Fishersales office for more completespecifications. Provide the productserial numbers (shown on thenameplate) and all other pertinentinformation. Instruction 51.LF:IM Baumann™ 51000 Series Instructions April 2007 .............. If you move or work on an actuatorinstalled on a valve with loadingpressure applied, keep your handsand tools away from the stem travelpath to avoid personal injury. Be especially careful when removing thestem connector to release all loadingon the actuator stem whether it be from air pressure on the diaphragmor compression in the actuatorsprings. Likewise take similar care when adjusting or removing any optionaltravel stop. Refer to the relevantactuator Maintenance Instructions. If hoisting the valve, take precautionsto prevent personal injury orproperty damage that could resultif the rigging slips. Be sure to useadequate sized hoists and chains orslings to handle the valve. .............. Personal injury could result frompacking leakage. Valve packing is tightened before shipment; however, the packing might require somereadjustment to meet specifi c service conditions. MAINTENANCE .............. Avoid personal injury or property damage from sudden release ofprocess pressure or burstingof parts. Before performing anymaintenance operations: • Always wear protective gloves, clothing, and eye wear whenperforming any maintenanceoperations to avoid injury. • Disconnect any operating linesproviding air pressure, electric power or a control signal to theactuator. Take precautions to prevent actuator from suddenlyopening or closing the valve. • Use bypass valves or completelyshut off the process to isolate thevalve from the process pressure. Relieve the process pressure fromboth sides of the valve. • Depending on the actuatorconstruction, it will be necessaryto manage the pneumatic actuatorspring pre-compression. It isessential to refer to the relevant actuator instructions in this manual to perform safe removal of theactuator from the valve. • Use lock-out procedures to besure that the above measures stayin effect while you work on theequipment. • The valve packing box may contain process fluids that are pressurized, even when the valve has been removed from the pipeline. Process fluids may spray out under pressurewhen removing the packinghardware or packing rings, or whenloosening the packing box pipeplug. • Whenever a gasket seal is disturbedby removing or shifting gasketedparts, install a new gasket duringreassembly. This provides a good gasket seal because the usedgasket may not seal properly. .............. Avoid personal injury or property damage by thoroughly cleaning the line of all dirt, welding chips, scale, oil or grease, and other foreign material. Failure to do so could result in damage to the seating and sealing surfaces of the valve and result in damage to the valve ...
