See the instructions below about how to copy the driver in MS-DOS mode(Note 1). Prepare a startup disk that has CD-ROM support and a blank formatted floppy disk. Step 1: Insert the prepared startup disk and motherboard driver disk in your system. Boot from the startup disk. Once at the A:\> prompt, change to your optical drive (example: D:\>). At the D:\> prompt, type the following two commands. Press after each command (Figure 1): cd bootdrv menu Step 2: When the controller menu (Figure 2) appears, remove the startup disk and insert the blank formatted disk. Select the controller driver by pressing the corresponding letter from the menu and press . For example, from the menu in Figure 2, for Intel ICH10R SATA controllers, select 1)Intel Matrix Storage driver for 32bit system for Windows 32-bit operating system or 2)Intel Matrix Storage driver for 64bit system for Windows 64-bit(Note 2). Your system will then automatically zip and transfer this driver file to the floppy disk. Press any key to exit when finished. Figure 1 Figure 2 (Note 1) For users without a startup disk: Use an alternative system and insert the motherboard driver disk. From your optical drive folder, double click the Menu.exe file in the BootDrv folder (Figure 3). A command prompt window will open similar to that in Figure 2. (Note 2) The GIGABYTE GSATA drivers in the menu in Figure 2 are required if you want to install the Windows operating system onto hard drives that are connected to the GIGABYTE SATA2/ JMB322 controller and configured to AHCI mode in BIOS Setup. For installation of the driver during the OS installation, refer to section 5-1-4. Figure 3 -97 - Appendix Copying the SATA RAID/AHCI driver from the motherboard driver disk to a USB flash drive On an alternative system, copy the SATA RAID/AHCI driver to your USB flash drive from the motherboard driver disk. For example, to install the Windows Vista 32-bit operating system(Note) onto hard drives connected to the ICH10R SATA controller, copy all of the files (Figure 4) located in the BootDrv\iMSM\32Bit directory in the motherboard driver disk to your USB flash drive. Figure 4 (Note) To install the Windows Vista 64-bit operating system, please copy the files in the BootDrv\iMSM\64Bit directory GA-EX58-EXTREME Motherboard - 98 5-1-4 Installing the SATA RAID/AHCI Driver and Operating System With the SATA RAID/AHCI driver diskette and correct BIOS settings, you are ready to install Windows Vista/XP onto your hard drive(s). The followings are examples of Windows XP and Vista installation on the Intel ICH10R SATA controller. A. Installing Windows XP Step 1: Restart your system to boot from the Windows XP setup disk and press as soon as you see the message "Press F6 if you need to install a 3rd party SCSI or RAID driver" (Figure 1). A screen will then appear asking you to specify additional device. Insert the floppy disk containing the SATA RAID/AHCI driver and press . Windows Setup Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver. Figure 1 Step 2: Then a controller menu similar to Figure 2 below will appear. Select Intel(R) ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/ DO SATA RAID Controller and press . On the next screen, press to continue the driver installation. After the driver installation, you can proceed with the Windows XP installation. Windows SetupYou have chosen to configure a SCSI Adapter for use with Windows, using a device support disk provided by an adapter manufacturer. Select the SCSI Adapter you want from the following list, or press ESC to return to the previous screen. Installing Windows Vista (The procedure below assumes that only one RAID array exists in your system.) Step 1: Restart your system to boot from the Windows Vista setup disk and perform standard OS installation steps. When a screen similar to that below appears, select Load Driver. (Figure 3). Figure 3 Step 2: Specify the location where the driver is saved, such as your floppy disk or USB flash drive (Figure 4). Figure 4 GA-EX58-EXTREME Motherboard - 100 Step 3: When a screen as shown in Figure 5 appears, select Intel(R) ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/DO SATA RAID Controller and click Next. Figure 5 Step 4: After the driver is loaded, select the RAID/AHCI drive(s) where you want to install the operating system and then click Next to continue the OS installation (Figure 6). Figure 6 -101 -Appendix Rebuilding an Array: Rebuilding is the process of restoring data to a hard drive from other drives in the array. Rebuilding applies only to fault-tolerant arrays such as RAID 1, RAID 10, or RAID 5 arrays. The procedures below assume a new drive is added to replace a failed drive to rebuild a RAID 1 array.
