If more than one Group CUE switch at a time is pressed, all the corresponding signals may be monitored. This switch will operate whether the Group ON switch is on or off. When the group CUE switches for 9/L and 10/R are both pressed, the 9/L and 10/R group output signals can be monitored as a stereo pair. An indispensable feature which allows the engineer to hear the same monitor mix as any of the performers, and make necessary adjustments. NOTE: The group CUE signal will be muted if any input or return input CUE switch is depressed. By setting an internal PCB jumper, the CUE signal can be pre Group fader, post Group fader or post Group ON switch. See your Yamaha dealer for full details. (3) Group fader Signals from the channel inputs, return inputs, and SUB-group inputs are routed via the group mix busses to a 100 mm smooth linear Group fader. The ten faders also provide a good visual indication of the overall mix levels. GROUP INSERT I/O 0GROU KV 5 CUE, PHONES, AUX OUT & TALKBACK SECTIONS © INPUT CUE indicator This LED indicator will light when any of the channel input CUE switches, or RETURN in CUE switches are turned on. Please note that this indicator is unaffected by the group CUE switches; even if the group CUE switches are engaged, this indicator will not light. This indicator is a particularly useful visual reminder if the operator has temporarily removed his headphones. (D CUE SIGNAL L-R indicators These LED indicators illuminate when the cue signal is 20 dB below the nominal signal level. © CUE OUT control This control can be used to set the level of the CUE signal appearing at the CUE OUT connection. Nominal output level is obtained with control at position 0 AUX OUT level control This controls the level of the signal from the AUX buss, received from the input channel AUX controls and auxiliary sub inputs. Nominal output level is obtained with the control at position "A", © Aux out CUE switch Depressing this switch allows the AUX signal mix to be monitored via headphones or the operator's monitor speaker. This is useful for easy checking of effects levels, or any signals routed to the AUX busses. © AUX-CUE METER select switch With this switch in its up position, the two rightward VU meters will indicate the AUX 1 & 2 output signal levels. In the down position, the CUE signal levels will be indicated. © Talkback Assign switches These switches determine to which buss the talkback signal is routed. Talkback may be sent to any of the ten group outputs, and the two auxiliary outputs. This provides communication not only with the performers, but also with the house sound engineer (normally via the TB OUT facility), stage staff or even dressing rooms (the AUX outputs are suitable for this purpose). ® TB OUT switch Pressing this switch will send the talkback signal to the TB OUT connection. ® Talkback INPUT A low impedance microphone should be connected at this terminal for talkback use. Nominal input level and impedance are -50 dB/50—600 ohms. This offers the advantage of being able to use the microphone of your choice, rather than limiting you to a built-in microphone. One possibility would be to use a two-way communications headset, which would provide greatly increased mobility. ® Talkback INPUT LEVEL control This control allows you to adjust the sensitivity of the TB input channel, to match the microphone you are using. Nominal output level is obtained with the control at "4" on the scale. © TALKBACK switch Turning this switch ON (switch DOWN) activates the TB microphone, providing communication with whichever outputs are selected using the Talkback Assign switches. © Phones LEVEL control This control is used to control the signal level at the CUE output, and operator's headphone volume. Nominal level is obtained with the control at "A" on the scale. 6 <@> PHONES This is the output for the operator's stereo headphones. Low impedance type stereo headphones should be used. Any CUE'd signal may be monitored at this output. VU METER SECTION VU METER Reading -20VU -10VU -5VU OVU +3VU Output level -16 dB (0.123V) -6 dB (0.388V) -1 dB (0.691V) +4 dB (1.23V) +7 dB (1.74V) The large, illuminated VU meters are all equipped with built-in peak LED indicators. The meters accurately indicate post-fader output levels of group outputs 1—10. Using the AUX-CUE METER select switch, either the AUX OUT, or CUE signal levels can be indicated. When the meters read 0 VU, nominal output levels (+4 dB) are obtained. The peak indicators light up 3 dB before signal clipping occurs. A signal which on the VU meter has an acceptable average level may well have high peaks. The peak indicators will show this instantaneously, allowing the operator to reduce the signal level accordingly, to avoid distor...
