Printing your work Verify that the Windows® XP operating system is set up for your printer as described in “Setting up a printer” on page 66. TECHNICAL NOTE: You only need to set up the printer the first time you connect it. If you use more than one printer or are changing printers, you will need to set up the operating system to run with the additional printer(s). To print a file: 1 If your printer is not on, turn it on now. 2 In the File menu of your program, click Print. The program displays a Print dialog box. 3 Click OK to print. Backing up your files Backing up your files means copying individual files to media, such as CD, or copying entire sections of your hard disk to another device, such as a tape drive. For those systems with a floppy disk drive, you may back up file to a floppy disk as follows: 1 To back up to a CD or other media, insert the media into the diskette appropriate drive. 80 80 2 3 4 Click Start, then click My Computer. Click the drive that contains the file you want to copy. Double-click the folder that contains the file, then click the file you want to copy. Digital versatile discs (DVDs) provide a significant increase in data storage and support features that are not available on any other video platform. These features include wide-screen movies, multiple language tracks, digital surround sound, multiple camera angles, and interactive menus. For these reasons, your computer may come with a DVDROM. If a DVD-ROM drive or Multifunction drive is not currently installed in the modular bay, follow the instructions in “Using the Modular Bay” on page 163. drive or Multifunction drive. Drive components and control buttons The DVD-ROM or multifunction drive resides in the Modular Bay on the bottom-right side of the computer. The CD/DVD control buttons are located at the front edge of the computer and can be accessed when the display panel is closed or open. DVD-ROM drive components Your DVD-ROM drive may look like this: Eject button Manual eject hole Sample DVD-ROM drive Never press the eject button or turn off the computer while the drive-in-use indicator light is glowing.
