REW 6 button @ F.FWD 5 button # STOP/EJ 9 3 button $ PAUSE ; button SIDE AND BACK PANEL - FIG 2 % Voltage selector (not all versions) ^ AC MAINS - socket for mains lead & BEAT CUT switch - to eliminate possible whistle tones during MW/AM recordings * BATTERY compartment SUPPLY Battery supply • Whenever convenient, use AC power supply if you want to conserve battery life. • Open the battery compartment (fig. 2) and insert six batteries as indicated , type R20, UM1 or D-cells. • Remove the batteries if they are exhausted or if they will not be used again for a long time. The battery supply is switched off when the set is connected to the power supply. To change over to battery supply, pull out the plug from the MAINS socket ^ . Power supply • Make sure the power voltage as shown on the type plate (on the back of the set) corresponds to your local power voltage. If it does not, consult your dealer or service organisation. • If the set is equiped with a voltage selector % (fig. 2) set this selector to the local mains voltage. • Connect the power supply lead to the MAINS socket and the wall socket. The mains supply is switched on. • To disconnect the set from the power supply completely, withdraw the mains plug from the wall socket. Important note for users in the UK, see Troubleshooting Radio/Playback RADIO RECEPTION • Set the MODE selector 3 to RADIO. • Adjust the sound with the VOLUME 2 control. • For extra amplification of the bass, use the DBB control 1. You may connect stereo headphones with 3.5 mm plug to the socket p PHONES 4. The loudspeakers are then muted. • Select the wave band using BAND switch 5. • TunetoaradiostationusingtheTUNINGknob 6. – For FM, pull out the telescopic aerial. To improve FM reception, incline and turn the aerial. Reduce its length if the FM signal is too strong (very close to a transmitter). – For AM(MW), the set is provided with a built-in aerial, so there is no need to use the telescopic aerial. The aerial can be directed by turning the whole set. • When FM ST 6 lights up, you are receiving a FM stereo transmitter. A disturbing noise, due to a weak FM stereo signal can be suppressed by setting the MONO/STEREO switch 3 to MONO. The FM ST 6 will disappear and you will hear (and record) the FM program in MONO. • The set is switched off if the MODE selector 3 is in position TAPE and no buttons are pressed. CASSETTE PLAYBACK • Set the MODE selector 3 to TAPE. • Press EJ 9 # and insert a recorded cassette (fig. 3). For playback, any cassette type can be inserted. • Press PLAY 1 0 and playback will start – Playback stops when the tape in the deck reaches its end. • Adjust the sound with the VOLUME control 2. You may connect stereo headphones with 3.5 mm plug to socket p PHONES 4. The loudspeakers then will be muted. • For extra amplification of the bass, use the DBB control 1. • To interrupt playback press PAUSE ; $ . • Press STOP 9 # if you want to stop the playback before the end of the tape. When the end of the tape is reached, the PLAY 1 0 buttons are released. • The set is switched off if the MODE selector 3 is in the TAPE position and no buttons are pressed. Winding the tape • Press F.FWD 5 to fast forward the tape. • Press REW 6 to fast rewind the tape. • Press STOP 9 to stop fast forward or fast rewind, or before the end of the tape. Recording General Troubleshooting RECORDING Copyright: Recording is permissible insofar as copyright or other rights of third parties are not infringed. Safeguarding a cassette against erasure: Accidental erasure can be prevented by breaking the small tab in the top left hand corner of the back of the cassette (See fig. 4). This protection can be reversed with a piece of adhesive tape placed over the same corner. Recording • Press EJ 9 # to open the cassette holder. • Insert the cassette (fig. 3). For recording you must use a NORMAL cassette (IEC I) on which the tabs (fig. 4) have not been broken. At the very beginning of the tape, no recording will take place during the first seven seconds when the leader tape passes the recorder heads. • When monitoring during recording, adjust the sound with the controls VOLUME 2 and DBB 1. These controls do not affect the recording. Recording from the radio • Set the MODE selector 3 to RADIO. • Select the waveband using the BAND switch 5. • Tune to the desired station using the TUNING control 6. • In case of FM recordings, set the MONO/STEREO switch 3 to the desired position. • If during the...
