BURN DVD When your camcorder is connected to a Sony VAIO series personal computer, you can easily burn the picture recorded on the tape on a DVD (Direct Access to “Click to DVD”) (p. 90). BURN VCD When your camcorder is connected to a personal computer, you can easily burn the picture recorded on the tape on a CD-R (Direct Access to Video CD Burn). See “First Step Guide” in the supplied CDROM for details (p. 89). END SEARCH EXEC The most recently recorded picture is played back for about 5 seconds and then stops automatically. CANCEL Stops [END SEARCH]. • After ejecting the cassette, the END SEARCH function is not available. STANDARD SET menu Settings while recording on a tape or other basic settings (REC MODE/MULTI-SOUND/ LCD/VF SET/DISP OUTPUT, etc.) The default settings are marked with B. The indicators in parentheses appear when the items are selected. See page 40 for details on selecting menu items. REC MODE (Recording mode) B SP (SP) Records in the SP (Standard Play) mode on a cassette. LP (LP) Increases the recording time to 1.5 times the SP mode (Long Play). • If you record in the LP mode, a mosaic-like noise may appear or sound may be interrupted when you play back the tape on other camcorders or VCRs. • When you mix recordings in the SP mode and in the LP mode on one tape, the playback picture may be distorted or the time code may not be written properly between the scenes. AUDIO MODE B 12BIT Records in the 12-bit mode (2 stereo sounds). 16BIT ( ) Records in the 16-bit mode (1 stereo sound with high quality). VOLUME See page 27. MULTI-SOUND You can select whether to play back audio recorded using other devices with dual sound or stereo sound. Continued , 61 Using the Menu STANDARD SET menu (Continued) B STEREO Plays back with main and sub sound (or stereo sound). 1 Plays back with main sound (or the left channel sound). 2 Plays back with sub sound (or the right channel sound). • You can play back, but cannot record a dual sound track cassette on your camcorder. • The setting returns to [STEREO] when you turn the power off for more than 12 hours. LCD/VF SET The recorded picture will not be affected by this operation. x LCD BRIGHT You can adjust the brightness of the LCD screen. 1 Adjust the brightness with / . 2 Touch . x LCD BL LEVEL You can adjust the brightness of the LCD screen’s backlight. B NORMAL Standard brightness. BRIGHT Brightens the LCD screen. • When you connect your camcorder to outside power sources, [BRIGHT] is automatically selected for the setting. • When you select [BRIGHT], battery life is slightly reduced during recording. x LCD COLOR You can adjust the color on the LCD screen with / . Low intensity High intensity x VF B.LIGHT You can adjust the brightness of the viewfinder. B NORMAL Standard brightness. BRIGHT Brightens the viewfinder screen. • When you connect your camcorder to outside power sources, [BRIGHT] is automatically selected for the setting. • When you select [BRIGHT], battery life is slightly reduced during recording. x WIDE DISPLAY (DCR-HC36E) You can select how a 16:9 aspect ratio picture appears in the viewfinder and the LCD screen by setting [WIDE SELECT] to [16:9 WIDE]. The recorded picture will not be affected by this operation. B LETTER BOX Normal setting (standard type of display) SQUEZE (Squeeze) Expands the picture vertically if black bands at the top and bottom in 16:9 aspect ratio are undesirable. x VF WIDE DISP (DCR-HC44E/HC46E/ HC94E/HC96E) You can select how a 16:9 aspect ratio picture appears in the viewfinder. A/V t DV OUT (DCR-HC96E) A/V t DV OUT (DCR-HC96E) GUIDEFRAME (DCR-HC94E/HC96E) When you set [A/V t DV OUT] ( ) to [ON], you can convert analog signals to digital by connecting a digital device and an analog device to your camcorder. See page 93 for details. VIDEO INPUT (DCR-HC96E) Selects the video plug to connect when you input the picture from the other device via A/V connecting cable. B VIDEO Connects via video plug of the A/V connecting cable. S VIDEO Connects via S VIDEO plug of the A/V connecting cable with S VIDEO cable. TV TYPE (DCR-HC44E/HC46E/ HC94E/HC96E) See page 39. USB CAMERA When you set [ STREAM] and connect your camcorder to your computer via the USB cable, you can view the picture your camcorder is currently seeing on your computer like a live camera.
