Play at high speed During playback or pause, press #SEARCH or 3SEARCH . Play in slow motion During playback or pause, press SLOW+/–. Press the +/– buttons to change the speed. Play frame by frame During pause, press 7 FRAME to advance the picture one frame. Hold the button down to play one frame each second. Rewind and start play During stop, hold 03REW on the unit down and press a PLAY on the unit. Additional Operations To resume normal playback Press a PLAY. Tip • If the picture shakes while in the still mode, adjust the picture using $/4 TRACKING NORMAL/SLOW STILL ADJUST. Notes • Streaks or snow cannot be eliminated completely in the various playback operations, especially in the slow motion mode. • The sound is muted during these operations. • If you press 7FRAME during playback, playback continues at the normal speed but the sound is muted. Press a PLAY to resume normal playback. Additional Operations Adjusting the picture Adjusting the tracking TRACKING AUTO/MANU Although the unit automatically adjusts the tracking when playing a tape, distortion may occur if the tape was recorded in $/4 poor condition. If so, manually TRACKING adjust the tracking. NORMAL/ Press $/4TRACKING SLOW NORMAL/SLOW to obtain the best possible picture. The distortion should disappear as you press one of the two buttons. If you cannot get a clear picture with manual adjustment, press TRACKING AUTO/MANU to return to automatic adjustment. About OPC OPC (Optimum Picture Control) automatically improves playback quality by adjusting the unit to the condition of the video heads and tape. The OPC function automatically works on all types of tapes, including rental tapes and the tapes that were not recorded with OPC. Notes • The auto tracking function works automatically when you play back a tape just after inserting it. • Sufficient picture quality may not be obtained when playing back tapes recorded on another VCR or tapes in poor condition. • When a tape recorded with the copyguard system is played back, intermittent distortion may appear in the upper portion of the picture. However, this is not a malfunction of the unit. Additional Operations Editing with another VCR How to connect to record on this unit TV Other VCR (Player) This unit (Recorder) LINE OUT LINE 1 IN Audio/video cable (not supplied) : Signal flow Tips • (SLV-XA147PS only) Use a commercially available 2-phono to 2-phono type audio/video cable. If the other VCR has AUDIO L and R jacks, use a commercially available 3-phono to 2phono type audio/video cable. • (SLV-XF247PS only) -If the other VCR is a monaural type, use a commercially available 3-phono to 2phono type audio/video cable. -You can also use the LINE 2 IN jacks on the front of the unit. Notes • Make sure you connect the plugs to the jacks of the same colour. • When connecting the units, do not simultaneously connect the LINE IN and LINE OUT jacks on your unit with the other VCR. A humming noise may occur if you do this. continued Additional Operations Editing with another VCR (continued) Operation (when PPAUSE recording on this unit) You can make a copy of a tape using this unit for recording or playback. The unit cannot record TV programmes directly since it does not have a TV tuner. Before you start editing • Turn on your TV and set it to the video channel. 1 (SLV-XF247PS only) Set INPUT SELECT to LINE 1 (or LINE 2). 2 Insert a source tape with its safety tab removed into the other (playback) VCR. Search for the point to start playback and set it to playback pause. 3 Insert a tape with its safety tab in place into this (recording) unit. Search for the point to start recording and press P PAUSE. 4 Press r REC on this unit to set it to recording pause. 5 To start editing, press the P PAUSE buttons on both units at the same time. To stop editing Press the p STOP buttons on both units. To save a recording To prevent accidental erasure, break off the safety tab as illustrated. To record on a tape again, cover the tab hole with adhesive tape. r RECINPUT SELECT REC Safety tab Tips • To edit more precisely, press the P PAUSE buttons on the units to release pause. • To cut out unwanted scenes while editing, press P PAUSE on this unit when an unwanted scene begins. When that scene ends, press P PAUSE again to resume recording. Note • You can record tapes only in SP mode.
