6. Filter Condition Monitor – When the ball, at high speed setting, reaches the high end of the indicator scale, the filter cartridge is loaded with particulate pollutants and needs changing (LC0760 & LC1060). 7. Fan Control – The air-cleaning rate of the unit can be controlled for maximum efficiency and convenience. The two speed fan control is used to select the operating speed of the fan. The unit is designed to run continuously at the low speed setting. For extended motor life, it is recommended that the high speed setting be used only when necessary. 8. Filter Check Light (LC1460) – An electric switch senses the condition of the filter cartridge and turns on an indicator light if the filter cartridge needs to be changed. PRE-OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1. When removing the unit from the packing case, visually check for shipping damage. Please contact both the shipper and your dealer immediately if the unit bears any sign of damage from mishandling. All Bionaire® units are carefully inspected before leaving our factory. 2. KEEP SHIPPING CARTON AND PACKING for use in the unlikely event that your Bionaire® unit needs servicing. If this unit is shipped without the original packing, damage could occur and void the warranty. 3. PLEASE REFER TO THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE BEFORE OPERATING YOUR NEW Bionaire® Air Cleaner. WARNING: Check the operating voltage shown on the back of the unit. Do not operate at voltages other than shown. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Remove the inlet grill, remove the HEPA filter cartridge and the carbon filter and remove any plastic wrapping or panels from them. Re-install the filters as per the section “Filter Replacement”. 2. After re-installing the filters, choose a suitable location, table top, shelf or wall (see wall-mount instructions) ensuring that both the air intake and exit are not obstructed. The air cleaner can be placed as a vertical “tall” unit, or as a horizontal “low profile” unit, depending on your personal preference. 3. Plug the power cord into a wall outlet. 4. Set the unit to the desired mode of operation, “Fan/On” or “Fan/Ions”. 5. Select the desired fan speed (LC1060 & LC1460 “Low,” “Med” or “High”) (LC0760 “Low” or “High”). Low Airflow - For continuous, extra quiet filtration. Medium Airflow - For continuous filtration. High Airflow - For maximum, transient pollution filtration. NOTE: Maximum filtration efficiency may not be reached until after the first 48 hours of operation. CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS Be sure the unit is switched off and unplugged from the power outlet. PLASTIC HOUSING - A soft cloth and non-abrasive cleaner may be used to remove any excessive dirt or fingerprints. Treated like any other quality appliance, your Bionaire® unit will retain its attractive appearance for many years. ION EMITTER PINS - FIRST, TURN OFF AND UNPLUG THE UNIT. Reach into the air exit grill with a cotton swab dipped into alcohol to clean any dirt that may have accumulated on the pins. Use caution when cleaning pins. WARNING: Do not wash the HEPA filter cartridge or the carbon filter. These are disposable items. FILTER REPLACEMENT To keep your unit operating at peak efficiency, the HEPA filter cartridge should be replaced as needed or as indicated by the Filter Condition Monitor (figure 2, LC0760 & LC1060). The HEPA filter cartridge is designed with large media surface areas and may last up to one year in typical operation. The rate at which the filter clogs with particulates depends on the volume and quality of air being filtered. If the unit is used continuously on high in a room with a strong source of particulates, such as a work shop, then the effective life of the filter will be reduced. In a cleaner environment, operating mainly on lower speeds, the filter will last longer. The carbon filter should be replaced regularly, about every three months or when odor removal effectiveness is noticeably reduced. Filter Condition Evaluation To test the condition of the filter cartridge, turn the unit on high speed and observe the output airflow of the unit. When the filter cartridge becomes clogged with particles there will be a noticeable drop in air flow and the air output will no longer be steady. Additionally, the indicator ball will be hovering in the upper region of the flow meter (figure 2, LC0760 & LC1060). Fig 2 Replacing the Carbon Filter 1. Unplug the unit. Place unit on its back. 2. Press on the two side catches to release the front inlet grill (figure 3). 3. Carefully remove the HEPA filter cartridge (figure 4). 4. Remove and discard the carbon filter located in the base of the unit (figure 4). Indicator Ball 5. Remove any protective wrap from the Fig 3 replacement carbon filter and place it in the base of the unit (figure 5). 6. Mark the new installation date on the side of the HEPA filter cartridge. Insert it in the unit with the foam tape of the filter pressing against the carbon filter (figure 5). 7. Install the inlet grill (figure 6). Side Catches Replacing the HEPA Filte...
