The
Listener
The
listener
on
the
serv
er
pro
vides
three
functions:
It
listens
for
connection
requests.
It
v
alidates
the
serv
er
login
name.
It
sets
up
a
direct
comm
unication
line
b et
w
een
the
clien
t
and
serv
er.
The
listener
monitors
a
sp ecied
datacomm
p ort
for
an
y
incoming
connection
requests.
When
it
receiv
es
a
request,
it
v
alidates
the
serv
er
login
name
for
the
user
on
the
clien
t
and
then
creates
a
database
pro cess
for
that
user.
The
listener
redirects
comm
unications
so
that
the
user
and
the
database
pro cess
comm
unicate
directly
with
one
another
o
v
er
the
net
w
ork.
It
then
resumes
listening
for
more
connection
requests.
Y
ou
man
ually
start
the
listener
on
the
serv
er
after
ALLBASE/SQL
has
b een
installed.
When
y
ou
stop
running
the
listener,
no
further
connection
requests
are
accepted.
Ho
w
ev
er,
an
y
remote
database
activit
y
that
is
already
in
progress
will
not
b e
aected
and
will
terminate
normally
.
Listener
and
net

are
recorded
in
a
listener
log
le
(HPDANSLG.PUB.SYS)
that

ou

problems
with
remote
access.
