Ultrium 960 Drive Upgrade
read me first
When you install an Ultrium 960 native FC tape drive in your ESL E-Series Tape Library, you may also need to
upgrade the associated cluster controller. The cluster controller that is compatible with the Ultrium 960 has an
“L3”sticker or an “A” sticker on the faceplate of the card (see Figure 1 and Figure 2).

If your cluster controller does not have one of these stickers, contact your HP service provider and order the
replacement cluster controller, part number 396076-001. Replace the existing cluster controller following the
instructions provided with the replacement (ESL E-Series Cluster Controller replacement poster, part number
350804-001). Return the original cluster controller to HP.
CAUTION: Before you install the Ultrium 960 tape drive, update Interface Manager card firmware, interface
controller card firmware, and library firmware. This ensures that your library will power on after the tape drive is
installed.
