SPINDLE SPEEDS Twelve spindle speeds are available on the drill press. Fig. 23, illustrates the speeds and which steps of the pulleys the belts must be positioned to obtain the 12 speeds. SPINDLE SPEEDS Five spindle speeds of 620, 1100, 1720, 2340 and 3100 RPM are available with your drill press. The highest speed is obtained when the belt is on the largest step of the motor pulley and the smallest step of the spindle pulley, as shown in Fig. 25. Fig. 25, illustrates which step of the motor and spindle pulley the belt must be placed to obtain the five speeds available. 20. DIRECTION OF FEED. Feed work into a blade or cutter against the direction of rotation of the blade or cutter only. 21. NEVER LEAVE TOOL RUNNING UNATTENDED. TURN POWER OFF. Don’t leave tool until it comes to a complete stop. 22. STAY ALERT, WATCH WHAT YOU ARE DOING, AND USE COMMON SENSE WHEN OPERATING A POWER TOOL. DO NOT USE TOOL WHILE TIRED OR UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS, ALCOHOL, OR MEDICATION. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. 23.

If an adapter is used to accommodate a two-prong receptacle, the adapter lug must be attached to a known ground. Never remove the third prong. 5. REMOVE ADJUSTING KEYS AND WRENCHES. Form habit of checking to see that keys and adjusting wrenches are removed from tool before turning it "on." 6. KEEP WORK AREA CLEAN. Cluttered areas and benches invite accidents. 7. ADJUSTING SPINDLE RETURN SPRING The spindle will automatically return to its upper-most position when the handle is released. Allow the handle to return slowly to the top position after each hole has been drilled. This spindle-return spring was adjusted at the factory. However, to adjust (if necessary): Disconnect the machine from the power source! 1. Loosen the nuts (B) and (E) Fig. 30. Make sure that the spring housing (A) stays engaged with the head casting. 2.
