Repairs to the boiler must conform to the applicable provisions in the ASME Code or the National Board Rules for Repairs. A boiler will last many years before it has to be retired from service. Periodic inspection will reveal the approaching retirement time. It is better to schedule a convenient replacement time than to wait for the boiler to fail. Rinse with a solution of bicarbonate of soda to neutralize any acid residue, and again, flush with water. Be sure to reconnectthe wire to the water level control board and to open the manual water feed valve. CAUTION: Never tighten the hand hole plate nut when the steam generator is in use, hot, or otherwise pressurized. Nevertighten nut over 15 footpounds torque.
